The Government announced that the Auckland Regional Fuel tax (ARFT) is to end in June 2024. Auckland Mayor has called upon Auckland Transport to stop all projects being funded by the tax. This would leave an estimated shortfall for transport funding of $1.2billion over the next 4 years. At end September 2023 around $780million had been raised by the ARFT.
