What's the true cost of owning a car?

When you factor in fuel, depreciation, tyres, servicing, insurance, rego and fuel etc. some estimates say it costs around $12,000 per year to own and run a car. That works out at around $33 per day. That figure was based on 91 petrol at $2.69 per litre (12,00kms pa). Now at $3.20 per litre the total cost of fuel has shifted from $2,744 pa to $3,264 pa.
