Moves are afoot to bring Auckland’s Waiheke Island ferry service under the regulation of the city’s formal public transport network – meaning lower fares and special deals for passengers. Currently passengers are not eligible for the discounted PT scheme, that has been running nationwide since March 2022. The Minister of Transport has announced he has started the legislative process to remove a decade-long exemption for the service to be run outside Auckland’s public transport system.
