Transport reform for Auckland underway

In early May, Parliament passed the Local Government (Auckland Council) (Transport Governance) Amendment Act 2026. This means Auckland Transport will solely focus on the delivery of public transport services. Transport governance and planning arrangements will move to Auckland Council. A new Auckland Regional Transport Committee will be set up jointly governed by Auckland Council and central government. Read more from Auckland Council here
