Some European countries offer cycle to work schemes whereby commuters are paid a rate per km to cycle. The Netherlands set up their scheme in 2016 and now offer a rate of around 33cents (NZ$) per km. Belgium and France offer more per km - 42cents capped at $350 pp pa. Results from the pilot phase, in which 18 companies were involved, showed a 50% increase in the number of active cyclists. What can we learn from this?
