Changes to road rules
From 1 October 2026, there are changes to the way we share lanes. New rules are:
People can ride e-scooters in cycle lanes. Children aged 12 years and under are now allowed to ride bikes on footpaths. Drivers must leave a 1.5m gap when passing other road users. Drivers must give way to buses on roads with speed limits of 60km/h or less.
