Congestion charging could cause "transport poverty"

Some Auckland councillors are worried that residents in parts of the city with “transport poverty” will pay the price for congestion charging - which is a priority for the government. Some are calling for improved alternatives to driving before any charges are introduced. The removal of the regional fuel tax funds and proposed cuts in spending on public transport and cycling and walking may make providing alternatives tricky.
